In the Ring with Fire Pro Wrestling World Part 2

Over the three days of CEO, I spent a nice chunk of time at the FPWW booth playing fellow attendees and the Spike Chunsoft staff alike. The more time I logged at their booth, the more excited I became for the game’s release in August. Who knew that day two of CEO would bring forth an exceptionally rare gaming moment that I am quite blessed to have experienced!

Special Exhibition Match: The Golden Lovers

At 2PM on Saturday, Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi participated in an exhibition tag match, recreating the main event from CEO x NJPW the night before: the Golden Lovers versus Los Ingobernables de Japon! After a fierce rematch against Fire Pro Naito & Hiromu, resulting in a devastating loss,  Kenny demanded human competition. The call was answered by CEO Gaming’s Alex Jebailey and local indie wrestler and gamer girl, Leva Bates. As competitors always perform better when there are stakes on the line, Director Matsumoto announced the Fire Pro Wrestling World Championship would be on the line!

After the conclusion of the exhibition, Kenny announced that he and Kota would be hanging around the Fire Pro booth an issued an open challenge.

The Golden Challenge in Fire Pro Wrestling World

In part one, I mentioned playing a second time against Director Matsumoto. As it turns out only sixteen people were able to participate in the open challenge, and it would figure as soon as I stepped away from the booth the lottery took place! I lucked out that there was one lot left, so I grabbed my friend, Nicole so we could take the last spot. She and I played as Tanahashi and KUSHIDA, respectively, and interestingly enough, Kenny and Kota picked NJPW veterans Togi Makabe and Hiroyoshi Tenzan.

fullsizeoutput_82b2It seems that The Golden Lovers aren’t the only ones with tag team moves!

Unlike the barbed wire death match with fifteen-minute detonation for an exploding ring, the match stipulation was a landmine deathmatch with a ten-minute time limit. The adjustment I needed to make for this game was my stance on blood. I think the graphic design made it easier for me to stomach because it was too realistic or graphics like other games on the market. We proudly represented Taguchi Japan, giving The Golden Lovers, one of the premier tag teams in the world a run for their money! We got in some excellent tandem moves, and managed to survive to a time-limit draw! Afterward, Kenny and Kota were kind enough to sign our badges, making for one exceptionally rare keepsake from this fantastic weekend!

My lack of poker face is why I would be terrible at professional eSports! I get into playing video games, just like I do when I play and watch sports. I am forever fired up, and I am unapologetic about it. Looking back at the pictures, I can’t help but smile because I will never forget this!

Outfit of the Day: Hello Kitty, Young Lioness

I often credit video games and anime as my gateways into my lifetime love with Japan, but since I was a little girl, Hello Kitty was always a part of my life. When I finally moved there in 2003, I quickly collected many Kitty-chan related items, but when I moved home in 2008, I couldn’t take them all with me. I’m so glad that Sanrio has blossomed into the US mainstream, but now there’s so much that I can’t ever seem to make up my mind when I step into the store! As I started getting into New Japan, I realized they have several notable collaborations, including Hello Kitty.

Hello Kitty and I are closer in age than I thought. Actually, Miss K edges me out by five years! One of my greatest regrets about my time in Japan was not being to find my way to Sanrio Puroland! It was watching a promotional clip for 15th Anniversary Special DVD for NJPW’s Toru Yano, a member of Chaos along with Roppongi 3K and former IWGP Heavyweight champion, Kazuchika Okada.

It was in that commercial where I saw this particular shirt, and I knew three things at that moment: 1) I needed to get the shirt, 2) I still need to go to Sanrio Puroland, and 3) I have to get my hands on that DVD! At least presently, I’ve checked off one of the three items!

IMG_8175Nights at the beach make me feel 18 all over again!

We went down to the beach for a little while, but decided to watch the evening fireworks from our balcony! I hope next year, we’ll have another ocean view room because I loved waking up to the sounds of the beach. I’ll just have to make sure that I set an alarm to catch a sunrise.

When I packed for CEO, I realized that I had enough NJPW-related t-shirts for the entire weekend with the occasional midday outfit change, but the biggest challenge wasn’t packing multiple pairs of shorts, skirts, and jeans. Knowing that I would be indoors most of the time, I selected jeans because most convention centers tend to have their air conditioning set to “meat locker.” Perhaps next year, if I can get my confidence gathered and endurance back in order, I might take a chance on those Dance Dance Revolution machines over in JebaileyLand, meaning I’ll need to bring a bigger bag.

Bonus Loot Unlocked: A Special Souvenir

In addition to Kenny and Kota graciously signing my spectator badge, each challenger received a neat Fire Pro Wrestling World t-shirt! I truly love the quality of Japanese t-shirts. I always find them softer and lighter in weight which is a saving grace in Florida, especially when wearing black in the summertime.

fullsizeoutput_81a2“Fans of the World, we’ve kept you waiting, haven’t we?”

Between this shirt and my newly acquired KUSHIDA GET CRITICAL shirt, my wardrobe for my FPWW live streams have been decided!  I wonder what sort of world I’ll be able to create with this game. I just hope I don’t wear it out before I see them again! Hopefully, they’ll come back to CEO next summer so I can challenge the director again!
