Fan Fest Orlando Arrives in September

Prior to GeekyCon, I expressed my long overdue thoughts about the Pulse Nightclub Massacre in June. At the con, I was able to experience healing and community through fandom. If you didn’t get the opportunity to attend, GeekyCon don’t miss the opportunity to experience Orlando through fan activism and conversations with purpose, block off September 17, 21016. Now. The incredible folks at Walker Stalker1 Con and Heroes and Villains Fan Fest are showing that heroes, villains, the survivors and the shambling  undead can come together for charity with Fan Fest Orlando.

You want a mic drop? Get ready, Y’all…

100% of the profits raised from ticket sales, autographs, professional photo ops, and vendor sales will be donated to the One Orlando Fund

Yes. You didn’t misread that. Read it again. I’ll wait.

Quick and Nerdy Details

The event volunteers aren’t the only ones volunteering their time for this one day event. The production team and the guests aren’t cutting a profit. Why on earth would they want to do that? Creator of Fan Fest and Walker/Stalker, James Frazier is an Orlando native as are several of his team members. They didn’t simply donate proceeds from an already scheduled convention, but created pulled together some of the most popular names in the business for a day of healing, awareness raising and love. At FanFest Orlando, there are no party alignments because everyone will win.

“…we’re inviting our community of fans to come help us raise as much money as we can for the families that were impacted.” – James Frazier, FanFest Founder/Orlandoan

The Green Arrow & Maggie Greene are hard at work!

The scheduled guest list (subject to change) includes stars from The Walking DeadArrowThe Flash, and Deadpool. The experience will be a combination of the experiences available at Fan Fest and Walker/Stalker Con. I’m already saving up my money to meet Lauren Cohan, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Stephen Amell!

Highlight Reel

This will be my first FF/WS experience and with great certainty, I am not going to make it my last!

  • Free panel sessions lead by some of TV’s most popular heroes and villains (schedule TBA)
  • Plenty of actions heroes and cosplayers roaming the convention floor, creating an interactive fan experience
  • Vendors dealing in comics, entertainment, zombie and other genres and industries
  • Photo ops are available to be reserved online ahead of time using their online system.
  • Autographs are to be purchased in person, cash only.

“Our hometown needs us. We’ve always supported each other, regardless of race, orientation, or creed, and this makes that all the more clear,” – Jackie Prutsman, FanFest VP/Orlandoan.

I wish I could have the opportunity to thank each person opening their hearts and donating their time to help bring more happiness and joy to Orlando. One day, I hope to thank them personally for being another ray of sunshine in Orlando’s darkest time. From the bottom of this nerdy local’s heart, Thank you.

Answer Me, These Questions Three

  1. Which celebrity guests would you like to meet?
  2. Have you been to either Fan Fest or Walker Stalker Con?
  3. What are your thoughts about using fandom, festivals, and conventions for social activism and giving back to the community?

  1. Walker Stalker Con is a horror/zombie genre inspired convention series. It is not about illegal stalking.

  1. I’ve been to Walker Stalker once….and it was not good. But I think it was their first year in Chicago and they picked a venue that was way too big and the photo people they had weren’t convention photographers I think. I think it’s beyond amazing though that everyone is volunteering their time for this. Fandom can be an amazing thing!
