Last month, I participated in my first #6on6 photo challenge by Emma, so it’s time for this month’s installment. After a busy week of home improvement projects offline, this challenge was a great way to get back on the writing train. What I love about this challenge is that it becomes like a miniature scavenger hunt, and for the second time in a row, I realize in the 45 minutes before I leave for work that is it the sixth of the month.
My Origami Owl Living Locket needs some new contents!
One: Nerdy Tea Caddies
I love tea. It is one of my favorite beverages on the planet, and I regularly mainline it when I am trying desperately to cut back on my coffee. When I was flying, I was fortunate enough to nab a couple of London layovers around the time of the Royal Wedding. Ahmad Tea Company put out these darling Royal Wedding tea tins with a special blend of black teas. I still nerd out every time I use this tin although the original bags are long gone1.
Two: Nike Women’s Half Marathon Necklace
If you were to ask me how I got into blogging publicly, I would say running my first half marathon in San Francisco would be the starting line. I learned a lot about myself and my ability to legitimately achieve goals. It wasn’t a fast race, and some would balk at the time, but the only person I compete with is myself. Plus, the gents of the SFFD were in tuxes at the finish line handing these babies out.
Three: Obsessed with my Charmed Arms
Two years ago, I attended a Charmed by Charity fundraiser by Alex + Ani in Winter Park. It was hosted by my bestie, and the proceeds were headed over to Give Kids the World Village here in Orlando. I have slowly curated my collection, but it seems I have far more gold finish than silver. They have a collaboration with Disney Parks, but the hardest thing is trying to make up my mind which one(s) I want!
Four: Captain on the Bridge
When these pins were released for the first reboot film, I could not find a Command pin to save my life. When I went to STiD, my then-Spock-to-my-Kirk gave me this Star Trek Insignia Pin. I still wear it at work from time to time, but the feeling is bitter sweet.
Five: Swiss Army Box
One of my more modest collections are that of my Maison Ladurée Macaron boxes. When I lived in New York, I visited there purely by chance while wandering the city. Then when I started flying, I sought out different locations: Paris (of course), Dublin (Brown Thomas), & London (Burlington Arcade). In Zürich, I simply happened upon the shop on Kuttelgasse purely by accident. I was fully prepared to walk past, but when I saw the stack of limited edition Swiss flag boxes trimmed in silver, I knew I would hate myself for leaving empty handed. Though the macaroons are long gone, it’s a wonderful reminder of a fantastic city and now repurposed for small item storage.
Six: Stage Select > Master Suite
While the details of my master bedroom in The Lil House of the Nerdy are few and far between, one of the things that made me cackle was the bedroom. Why? The walls, the double tray ceiling, and the adjoining bathroom are ALL metallic silver. The best reaction I had to it was my pal, Kate, who wryly smiled and said, “You just need ZERO [by The Smashing Pumpkins] in BIG letters right on that wall.” (Side note: SP was one of my favorite bands in high school). Part of me daydreams that it was modeled after the ballroom scene in Labyrinth (and yes, it did come with a fancy chandelier)!
Zelda is trying to convince me that my Jordan Dene2 tank should count, too!
Answer Me, These Questions Three:
- Which item would you nerd out over most?
- How do you determine something to be “nerdy,” “nerdy worthy,” or “worth nerding out over?”
- Which collection would you like to learn more about?
- This morning, I tweeted @AhmadTeasUK to see if they have a comparable blend available here in the US. The Contemporary Royal Afternoon blend they have available on their UK site sounds very similar to the Royal Wedding blend.
- The text on the tank top says, “Kylo Ren is a Punk Bitch” which comes from the Saturday Night Live skit: “Undercover Boss: Starkiller Base” in which ‘Kylo Ren’ goes undercover as Matt the Radar Technician (played by actor Adam Driver from Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens). Kylo realizes that he’s not as popular as he believes. Check the outtakes, they’re rather swell. Also, the SNL SW7VII Auditions that didn’t make it.
