Yoga and Spa Girls Day Out at Hyatt Regency Orlando

One of the best thing about living in a state driven by tourism is the competitive nature of the local hotel chains to provide the best possible customer service experience possible, and the team at the Hyatt Regency Orlando are no exception! I was given the opportunity to experience a generous portion of their fitness and spa facilities with a group of wonderful fitness bloggers right here in Central Florida. By day’s end, I was certain they’d need to haul me out in a wheelbarrow from being completely blissed out!

Ready to get flexy with my best girl, Meghan!

Situated on the ever growing International Drive (I-Drive), the Hyatt Regency Orlando is adjacent to the Orange County Convention Center, fabulous dining and entertainment like Pointe Orlando, and the newly opened Orlando Eye. I totally dig all the renovations and new restaurants that are cropping up along I-Drive and the Hyatt Regency Orlando is in the thick of it all like the eye of a hurricane. If you want a place to escape from all the action of the Attractions-area, this is the place to be.

Spa-aaaaaaah Yoga

Our 45-minute class with Anne was their “Spa Yoga” flow designed for all levels but keeping with beginners in mind. A substantial portion of their fitness clientele are the guests of those attending conferences or business meetings at the hotel and surrounding conference center. Anne not only explained th movement behind each portion of the workout, but accompanied it with plenty of positive vibes and just the right balance of philosophy associated with yoga. After a week of my normal desk jockey 40-hour work week, plus all the excitement of Blog Fete, I was wound a bit tighter than usual.

Let’s do this!

“You’re going to leave longer, leaner, lighter,” was the intention Anne set for her class, and sure enough, I felt precisely that. My sister taught me the importance of setting an intention for a yoga practice, but I tend to consistently set the same one: “don’t fall over.”  I usually practice yoga outside with my sister or on my own in my apartment, so I had forgotten how wonderful taking a studio class with friends can be. The neat thing about yoga classes HRO is that they are the only hotel to participate in the Class Pass Program. I am not a class pass member, but if our class with Anne is any indication of the level and quality of classes provided by the program, someone better sign me up! The flow was soothing which I really needed after a stressful week, and it culminated with an aromatherapy savasana. My biggest problem is learning to turn my brain off and breath deeply.

On Wednesdays at 5PM, the Fitness Center has their Weekly Yoga & Wine Down where folks can enjoy a yoga class, meet some new folks, and the head over to happy hour! Sounds like my kind of midweek Thought Adjustment Hour!

Relax, Recharge, Rejuvenate

In a digital age, sometimes the hardest thing in the world is unplugging. I am guilty for focusing too hard on capturing moments that I forget that I should focus on experiencing them. After our wonderfully relaxing yoga class, we were whisked away to The Spa for a little TLC. Reverting to desk jockey/office goddess hood work flow, my back was tighter than that jar of tomato sauce I can never seem to open.

Time to slip blissfully off the radar, y’all!

If you make your way to The Spa, my hands down recommendation for a masseuse is Jackie. She was personable, exceptionally welcoming, and truly took note of problem areas or those requiring additional attention or a softer massage. Each time I get a massage, I always become very cognizant of my poor habits, especially when it comes to posture and ergonomics. It nice to get a reset without having to heading over to a chiropractor or massage therapist. Even in with a desk job, it is so easy for me to internalize my stress. The Spa offers a wide range of services, all of which are fairly priced considering the location of the hotel in the Attractions/Theme Parks sector of The City Beautiful.

At the Poolside, Poolside Cabana…

Now that I no longer fly, I do miss traveling around the world from on occasion. Often on my longer layovers, my personal flight debrief involved a good book, a nice meal, and an adult beverage by the pool. This was especially true in the winter, when I would intentionally trade all my trips for long Florida layovers. Being a naturalized Floridian (long-time Florida transplant), I couldn’t really tolerate winters north of the state line. Having the opportunity to discover the proper way to enjoy a local staycation does help inhibit my wanderlust, and knowing that HRO is close by to escape to when the itch surfaces is reassuring.

Our assigned cabana was between The Grotto Pool with a fantastic waterfall and Coconuts Poolside Bar and Grill. I have never had the pleasure of enjoying a private cabana, so it took a little getting used to! Even with the pooled packed with folks determined to bask in the remaining days of summer, our food arrived in a timely manner. We discussed running, fitness, and a little bit about ourselves over lunch, took a dip in the pool and simply enjoyed spending time making friends.

Ready to soak up some sunshine with friends, food, and adult beverages!

Our attendant, Joy, was cheerful, hardworking, and took great care of us. Reviewing the menu, I ordered an all-beef sirloin burger with cheddar cheese and fries and geared up to simply revel in the sunshine with new friends. Our drinks arrived– and hot dog– my Zacapa Stormy Night (featuring Zacapa Rum, Simply Syrup, Fresh Lemon, Fresh Mint, topped with Ginger Beer) transported me to an island paradise where I would not being marooned at for a little while. (I might have a new summertime, poolside favorite!)

My Floridian Uniform: Havaianas Flip Flops & my Vacation State of Mind Tote bag

The glorious summer sunshine smiled upon as we lounged by the pool. We cooled off in the pool, and tackled the waterslide! With my hectic summer paired with my LASIK preparations, I seldom made time for the pool or the beach, so I took every opportunity to play in the water. The water felt great and the pool-area vibe helped me escape into endless summer. The service was outstanding and I am so thankful I had the opportunity to spend my day making new girl friends (Thank you, Whitney, Heather, ShannonLinda, and all the other great Central Florida Lady Bloggers). I cannot wait for my next opportunity to visit the wonderful folks at the Hyatt Regency Orlando. Thanks for making our Sunday brunch so much fun!

Answer Me, These Questions Three:

  1. When planning a staycation in the greater Orlando area, which attractions do you visit?
  2. When selecting a hotel, which amenities are your top priorities?
  3. What’s your favorite non-mango infused poolside beverage (virgin drinks included)?

Note: The services were provided by the Hyatt Regency Orlando, but the opinion is purely my own.
